BERLIN, March 27 (AP) - (Kyodo)—Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced his intention not to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics in August, citing China's crackdown on Tibet protesters, the nation's Dziennik daily reported Thursday.

Tusk is the first European leader to clearly declare such a decision over the Tibet issue.

According to the report, Deputy Foreign Minister Ryszard Sznepf told the newspaper that Poland will make diplomatic efforts to press the European Union to take a decisive stance on the issue.

Polish President Lech Kaczynski has not commented on whether he is going to attend the ceremony.
