DETROIT (AP) - Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is getting out of jail but now faces assault charges for allegedly interfering with a detective trying to deliver a subpoena to his friend.

Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox announced Friday he'll be bringing charges of assaulting or obstructing a police officer.

The mayor already faces perjury and misconduct charges stemming from his testimony in a civil trial last year.

Kilpatrick was jailed Thursday for violating his bond by traveling to Canada on city business. A district court judge overturned that decision Friday but said the mayor will have to wear an electronic tether and won't be allowed to travel.
