NEW YORK (AP) - Serena Williams has issued a second statement to "sincerely apologize" for what she calls her "inappropriate outburst" at the U.S. Open.

Williams says she wants to apologize to the lineswoman, opponent Kim Clijsters, the U.S. Tennis Association and tennis fans.

The apology was issued Monday, more than 36 hours after Williams' profanity-laced tirade at the lineswoman. The official called a foot fault late in the defending champion's semifinal loss to Clijsters on Saturday night.

Williams was fined $10,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct and could face further penalties.

She and her sister Venus play in the women's doubles final Monday.
