Police: Boxer Mike Tyson detained at LAX

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Police say Mike Tyson has been detained on suspicion of battery after an alleged altercation with a photographer at Los Angeles International Airport.

Tyson's spokeswoman Tammy Brook says the boxer was traveling with his wife and 10-month-old child Wednesday afternoon when he was attacked by an overly aggressive paparazzi.

Brook says he acted in self-defense to protect his child.

Airport police spokesman Sgt. Jim Holcomb says the incident happened at a United Airlines ticket counter.

Holcomb says the photographer accused Tyson of hitting him. The photographer fell to the ground and cut his forehead. He's being treated at a hospital.

He says both Tyson and the photographer want to press charges for misdemeanor battery.

Holcomb says the photographer has accused Tyson of hitting him. The photographer fell to the ground and cut his forehead. He's being treated at a hospital.

Holcomb says both Tyson and the photographer want to press charges for misdemeanor battery. He says Tyson was compliant and cooperative with officers and is currently waiting in a holding cell at the airport.
