The program to cover assisted living expenses would be voluntary. But workers at participating companies would be automatically enrolled unless they opted out. Critics say workers would be "tricked into" enrolling.
People would see a deduction for the program from their paychecksestimates range from $160 to $240 a monthunless they signed a form or clicked a box saying they wanted to keep the money.
The proposed program would help shift the financial burden of an aging population from Medicaid, now the largest funder of long-term care, to individuals.
