Daniel Glaser, deputy assistant secretary for terrorist financing and financial crimes at the U.S. Treasury Department, arrived in Seoul on Wednesday for a three-day visit.
His discussions with South Korean officials of the foreign and finance ministries included sanctions against North Korea and general financial issues between the two countries.
His trip comes as Pyongyang demands the removal of U.N. sanctions, put in place following its nuclear test in May last year, as a precondition for its return to the stalled six-party talks on denuclearizing North Korea.
The six-party talks bring together the two Koreas, the United States, China, Japan and Russia.
