THE CANADIAN PRESS TORONTO - Two senior Liberals emerged from a pre-budget meeting with Finance Minister Jim Flaherty in Toronto today saying their talks were productive and business-like.

Scott Brison and John McCallum say they impressed on Flaherty the need to understand the state of the country's books.

They say only then can they discuss a stimulus package to breathe life into the economy.

The Liberals claim they'll move to topple the minority Conservatives if there's not enough in Flaherty's January 27 budget to boost the economy.

The two men say they also asked for clarity around Flaherty's plans to sell off federal government assets.

Flaherty meets his provincial and territorial counterparts in Saskatoon on Wednesday.
