Little Known Fault Poses Major Threat Near Bay Area

Late Sunday night, a magnitude 3.5 earthquake rocked Los Angeles to sleep. While the San Andreas and Hayward faults grab headlines when the media talk of the “big one,” a lesser-known fault line named the Concord is flying under the radar. Geologists, however, have been keeping a watchful eye on the 11-mile-long fissure that is equally, if not more, capable of producing a devastating and catastrophic earthquake.

Fire Rips Through Top of Another L.A. Building

A raging blaze ripped through the top floors of a six-story commercial office building in Los Angeles’s Westlake District on Monday evening. Two people were reportedly rescued from the fire and one of them is being treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Lois Capps to Retire in 2016; 24th District in Play

Democratic U.S. Rep. Lois Capps, 77, announced on Wednesday that she will be retiring her congressional post, leaving the competitive 24th congressional district seat open for the first time in almost two decades. Capps, who is from Santa Barbara, was first elected as the representative for the 24th district in 1998.
