Quick Response from Texas National Guard Saves Lives

Members of the Texas National Guard (TNG) responded quickly to rising flood waters in North Texas after a weekend of predicted severe weather. The Guardsmen used a Blackhawk medical helicopter to lift a pregnant woman and a baby to safety. They then quickly moved to the nearby home of the woman’s grandmother and rescued her on Mother’s Day.

Abbott Activates State Operations Center, Menacing Storms Marching across Texas

Governor Greg Abbott has elevated activation of the Texas State Operations Center (SOC) in anticipation of forecasted severe storms approaching Texas. This action will enable the State of Texas to respond in a timely manner should the need arise. The Governor’s office called the approaching storms “a significant weather event.”

Texas: Top Place to Do Business 11 Years Running

Texas is once again ranked at the top state in the U.S. to do business. Texas Governor Greg Abbott says it will get even better in the coming years. The ranking was made by Chief Executive’s 2015 Best and Worst States to Do Business report. The magazine surveys top CEOs from 511 companies across the nation. This is the eleventh year in a row that Texas has topped the list.

Garland police executed a carefully planned response to stop the threat and protect the lives of the nearly two hundred people who attended the Mohammad Art Exhibit and Contest.

The inaugural Muhammad Art Exhibit and Contest hosted by Pamela Geller’s American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI) is sold out and ready for Sunday evening’s festivities. The event is bringing art from across the world expressing free speech which is under attack from radical Islamic groups like those who attacked Charlie Hebdo in January. The exhibit will be held on Sunday, May 3, at the Curtis Culwell Center, 5-7 pm, in the Dallas suburb of Garland, Texas.

Colliding Protests — ‘Dallas Won’t Burn Like Baltimore’ Threatens Open Carry Group

Demonstrators expressing opposing views on the riots and protests in Baltimore will come face to face in Dallas on Friday evening. Mothers Against Police Brutality (MAPB) are planning a “#Dallas to Baltimore Solidarity Rally) while a grassroots rally called “Backing the Blue Rally”. A third group, Texans Against Gun Grabbers (TAGG) is planning a self-described counter-protest. All three events are scheduled for the same time and place.

Democrats Seek to Block Geert Wilders from Texas Muhammad Art and Cartoon Exhibit

Two Democrat U.S. Representatives are seeking to block Wilders from entering the United States where he is scheduled to speak at the First Annual Muhammad Art Exhibit and Contest. The event will be hosted May 3rd at the Curtis Caldwell Center, which is owned and operated by the Garland Independent School District. The exhibit is being hosted by the American Freedom Defense Initiative (AFDI). The Curtis Caldwell Center was the site of a “Honor the Prophet” rally in January. About two thousand Texans came out to protest the event.

Baltimore’s Freddie Gray Protests Spread to Houston

HOUSTON, Texas – Protesters supporting the Baltimore protests came out in Houston on Wednesday evening. The protest in Houston is small in numbers at this time and is peaceful. The Houston Police Department is highly visible with patrol units and the Houston Mounted Patrol officers that are specially trained in crowd control.

Woman Claiming to be Texas State Senator’s Wife Arrested for Harassment

A woman allegedly claiming to be the wife of Texas State Senator Carlos Uresti (D-San Antonio) was arrested and charged with harassment. The Austin woman has been sending letters and packages to the Senator of a harassing and sexually explicit nature and failed to stop after receiving a cease and desist letter. The woman was charged with a Class B misdemeanor and could spend up to 180 days in jail and a possible fine of up to $2,000.

Texas Senate Passes $811 Million Border Security Measure

AUSTIN, Texas – Members of the Texas Senate passed a border security measure that significantly raises the level of spending in the state’s effort to secure the Texas border with Mexico. The bill (SB 3) by Senator Brian Birdwell (R-Granbury) passed with massive bipartisan support in a vote of 26-4.

BP Agent to Texas Senate: ‘Texas Must Take an Aggressive Stance Against Criminal Organizations’

AUSTIN, Texas – U.S. Border Patrol Agent Hector Garza testified before the Texas Senate Subcommittee on Border Security in support of creating a multi-state border security compact. Garza told the Senators that Texas must take an aggressive stance against the organizaed criminal enterprises that are smuggling thousands of illegal immigrants into the United States. The bill, SB 1252 by Senator Bob Hall (R-Edgewood), would require the Governor of Texas to negotiate an Interstate Border Security Compact to allow states to enforce federal immigration law.

MS-13 Gang Members Plead Guilty in Near-Beheading of Texas Teen

HOUSTON, Texas – Two El Salvadorian men who are members of the hyper-violent MS-13 gang pleaded guilty in federal court to the near beheading murder of a 16-year-old Houston teen. The murder occurred in the woods of the Sam Houston National Forrest in Walker County near Huntsville, Texas. Because the crime occurred in a national park, the murder became a federal crime.

IN DEPTH: Open Carry Bill Passes Initial Vote in Texas House after 5 Hr Debate

Following more than five hours of debate which was interrupted for several points of order discussions and fights over parliamentary procedure, HB 910 passed its initial vote on the floor of the Texas House by a vote of 96-35. The bill will allow Texas who possess a Concealed Handgun License (CHL) to openly carry a handgun in a shoulder or belt holster. Eighteen amendments were offered to the bill by both Republicans and Democrats but only one amendment was passed.
