Death of Fort Hood Ebola Warrior Not Related to the Virus

Two medical tests have confirmed the 24-year-old Fort Hood soldier who was found dead in his front yard did not have or die from the Ebola virus. The soldier returned from West Africa recently on emergency leave. His name is still being withheld pending family notification.

Straus Re-Elected Over Objection of Texas Grassroots

AUSTIN, Texas – Despite overwhelming objections from grassroots leaders across Texas, House Speaker Joe Straus was re-elected by a vote of 127-19. Straus’ challenger, State Representative Scott Turner, fulfilled his campaign promise to have a record vote on the Speaker’s race with a challenger on the ballot. Four Representatives were absent. Texas Economy Expected to Grow Despite Oil Slump

Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts Glenn Hegar released the Biennium Review Estimate (BRE) on Monday in Austin. He predicted Texas will have $113 billion available for general purpose spending during the 2016-17 biennium. This represents a 9.5 percent increase over the 2014-15 biennium. The new Comptroller predicted a moderate growth rate during the coming two years.

Texas Rep Introduces Bill to Defend Traditional Marriage and State Sovereignty

Texas State Representative Cecil Bell (R-Magnolia) filed a bill in the State Capitol this week to protect the sovereignty of Texas and to defend traditional marriage in this state. The effect of the bill would be to prohibit the use of state or local funds to be used to license or support same-sex marriage. This would include blocking the salaries of any government employee engaged in subverting Texas law regarding marriage.

Fort Hood, Texas, has received its first eighty-seven Ebola warriors who have returned home after helping to fight the deadly disease in Liberia. Most of the soldiers are members who are permanently assigned to Fort Hood, but some are from Fort Carson, Colorado. The soldiers now begin a twenty-one day monitoring period to ensure none of them returned carrying the deadly virus.

The newly sworn in District Attorney (DA) for Hidalgo County said he will keep his pledge for a public corruption task force.
