DHS Ranks Last In Employee Satisfaction, Engagement

The Office of Personnel Management made 2015’s government-wide employee engagement index scores and the global satisfaction index scores public Tuesday, revealing that DHS ranked dead last in both employee engagement and job satisfaction among large agencies. While the federal government as a whole experienced a one percent increase in employee engagement to 64 percent from 63 percent last year, DHS actually lost a percentage point in engagement, falling to 53 percent

Sens. Toomey, Sessions: Police Lives Also Matter

Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) have introduced legislation to make the to make the murder of a law enforcement officer, firefighter, or other first responder an aggravating factor in favor of the death penalty. Current law already applies this penalty when the murder victim is a federal law enforcement officer or prosecutor. The legislation comes in the wake of a number high profile murders of police officers, including Pennsylvania State Trooper Corporal Bryon Dickson and Philadelphia Officer Robert Wilson, III.

Foreign Nationals Issued Temporary Visas Surge Under Obama

The report, authored by CIS senior fellow David North and obtained in advance by Breitbart News, reveals that the number of visas issued to nonimmigrants such as tourists, students, temporary workers and the like increased from 5.8 million in fiscal year 2009 to 9.9 million in FY 2014. “Although visa overstayers account for 40 to 45 percent of the illegal alien population, it became easier during those years to secure these visas — the percentage of visa denials to all visa decisions dropped from 18.6 percent in FY 2009 to 15.3 percent in FY 2014, according to State Department data,” North writes.

Poll: 67 Percent of Republicans Want Decrease In Immigration

A new survey from the Pew Research Center shows that nearly half of Americans say immigration to the U.S. should be decreased. This marks the 50th year since passage of the 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act, which has resulted in increased immigration to the U.S. and substantial demographic changes.

Pew: Whites To Account For Less Than Half U.S. Population By 2055, 46 percent by 2065

Pew’s projections in the coming 50 years suggest that by 2065 the U.S. will be host to 78 million immigrants and the foreign-born population will hit a record 18 percent of the U.S. population. Currently 14 percent of the U.S. is foreign-born. Additionally, the U.S. is home to one in five of the world’s immigrants and the immigrant population in the U.S. is “by far,” according to Pew, the world’s largest.

House Speaker John Boehner says he ultimately decided to announce his resignation as a step in his on-going effort to strengthen the House. After walking to the podium singing “zippity do dah,” Boehner addressed his newly-announced departure from Congress by telling reporters that his primary goal has been to protect the institution of Congress.

In a surprise announcement Friday morning during a closed-door Republican conference meeting, John Boehner revealed his intentions to step down as speaker. In his statement, release later Friday, Boehner offered additional details about the circumstances of his early departure. “My mission every day is to fight for a smaller, less costly, and more accountable government. Over the last five years, our majority has advanced conservative reforms that will help our children and their children. I am proud of what we have accomplished,” Boehner said in a statement Friday.

Dems. Recall Holocaust In Push For More Syrian Refugees

Over the weekend, Secretary of State John Kerry announced that the administration is planning to admit at least 185,000 refugees over the next two years, including 10,000 Syrians in the first year. In reaction, Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), the ranking member on the House Judiciary Committee, and Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), the ranking member on the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security reiterated their call for more Syrian refugees. While Democrats push for more Syrian refugees, Republicans are highlighting the national security risks associated with admitting thousands of individuals from terrorist hot spots — particularly when ISIS has indicated it seeks to use the refugee flow as a means of infiltrating the West.

U.S. Host To 10 Million More Foreigners Than Entire European Union

La Raza Projects: 16.7 million Latinos Registered To Vote by 2016

With just under a million Latino U.S. citizens turning 18 each year, the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) is projecting that by 2016, 16.7 million Latinos will be registered to vote. On National Voter Registration Day, NCLR issued a call to eligible Latinos in the U.S. to “Defeat bigotry on the campaign trail—register and vote!”

New DHS Program Pairs Illegal Immigrants with Social Workers

The Obama administration is launching a pilot program to provide illegal immigrant families released in the U.S. with social workers who could help them access housing, education, medical services and legal assistance. House Dems Call on Pope Francis To Promote Immigration Reform

House Democrats are appealing to Pope Francis to promote comprehensive immigration reform during his visit in the U.S., among other causes. In a series of short videos released Tuesday, Democrats urge the pontiff to advocate for their issues during his address to Congress.
