Monday night the Senate voted to advance its six-year highway legislation, including an extension of the Export-Import Bank attached. Conservatives are, however, staunchly opposed to Ex-Im’s reauthorization and House Leadership has indicated it will not take up the Senate’s bill.
The Obama administration has taken extensive efforts to try to recoup some 2,600 three-year work permits issued in violation of a federal district court’s injunction halting President Obama’s executive amnesty programs — expanded DACA and Deferred Action for Parents of Americans and Lawful Permanent Residents (DAPA). USCIS is simply replacing the three-year permits with the allowable two-year documents. Latino groups are complaining.

Introduced by Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA), the Sanctuary Cities legislation came to the floor in response to the outcry over the murder of Kathryn Steinle earlier this year. The bill passed 241-179 Thursday afternoon.
Rep. Steve King (R-IA) expressed sadness and frustration during a hearing on sanctuary cities Thursday, that criminal immigrants remain on U.S. streets.
The MPI immigration report, issued Thursday, highlights the impact of the new policy guidance on immigration enforcement on the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. — namely the Obama administration’s move to replace the Secure Communities program with the Priority Enforcement Program (PEP).
Answering a question from Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-TX) as to whether Obama had expressed condolences to his family since his daughter’s murder — Steinle indicated that he had not. “I’m very sorry to hear that when there have been other very public deaths in this country like Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin and Freddie Gray the president has expressed his condolences to the family. I would have expected him to do that here,” Ratcliffe responded.
“Our family realizes the complexities of immigration laws, however, we feel strongly that some legislation should be discussed, enacted and/or changed to take these undocumented immigrant felons off our streets for good,” Steinle testified before a House subcommittee Thursday.
The murder of Kathryn Steinle at a San Francisco pier allegedly by a multiple deportee illegal immigrant with a long rap sheet — who had been released due to the city’s sanctuary policies — has sparked a national outcry over sanctuary cities. Thursday’s hearing sought to examine those policies.
“I think the President needs to fire the director immediately. I think Congress needs to pass a law to stop them from changing the oath,” Jindal said in an interview with Breitbart News Wednesday. “Let’s be honest here, immigration without assimilation is invasion. We’ve always said the people coming here have to want to be Americans otherwise why are they coming here in the first place?” he asked.
In a proposed rule from the Department of Homeland Security, the administration seeks to expand on a 2013 rule— which allowed illegal immigrants with a U.S. citizen spouse or parent to apply for a waiver in the U.S. from the requirement that they return to their home countries for three to 10 years to apply for legal status, if they could prove “extreme hardship.”
“While we appreciate the intent behind the Hunter sanctuary bill (H.R. 3009), NumbersUSA has no choice but to oppose it,” the limited immigration group said in a statement issued to House Members Tuesday, adding the bill does not confront the “largest sanctuary jurisdiction of all: the Federal government.
In an email to Republican colleagues Tuesday, obtained by Breitbart News, King recalls a conversation he had with Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) Monday in which the GOP leader inquired about his level of support for the sanctuary city bill the House is slated to vote on this week. “Leader McCarthy called me Monday and asked me a point blank question – If the Duncan Hunter bill is brought to the Floor would you oppose it? I said No. This bill moves the ball in the right direction,” he wrote.
Keane Dean, a 26-year old from the Philippines, was arrested last week in Los Angeles County after authorities discovered a 14-year old girl — whose parents reported her missing — was in Dean’s garage, according to the Associated Press.
USCIS explained Tuesday that while reciting the Oath of Allegiance is part of the naturalization process, immigrant candidates for citizenship may omit portions of the oath if they have certain religious or conscientious objections.
“No more people should die at the hands of those who ignore our immigration laws and commit crimes. No more families should have to go through what our hearing witnesses have experienced,” Grassley — who held a hearing Tuesday featuring testimony from the family members of illegal immigrant crime victims — said Tuesday.
Planned Parenthood’s leaders must be held to account for the practices exposed in recent undercover videos, according to Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX).
“This new video is as sickening, disturbing and callous as the last video. It’s now clear that Planned Parenthood allows this horrifying conduct to happen throughout its organization,” Boehner said in a statement to Breitbart News.
The House is slated to consider legislation targeting sanctuary cities.
“Once again we are at a loss for words by the brazen manner in which Planned Parenthood employees casually discuss the harvesting of aborted babies’ tissue and organs. These videos give us a window into the soul of the big abortion industry and expose their past statements as flat-out lies,” Black said.
The father of the woman murdered in the sanctuary city of San Francisco will again appear before Congress later this week.
