House Votes Again to Defund Planned Parenthood

In what was ultimately a show-vote, the House once again passed a measure that supports the defunding of Planned Parenthood, as the abortion business is under congressional investigation for selling the body parts of aborted babies.

Cecile Richards: ‘Abortion is Healthcare’

Stating on numerous occasions that she was trying to be as cooperative as possible with the committee, Cecil Richards nevertheless evaded some questions about Planned Parenthood’s abortion business, often responding she “did not know” the answer to questions a CEO might be expected to know. At one point, as Live Action president Lila Rose tweeted, she was asked if babies who survive abortions should be given medical care, Richards replied, “I have never heard of such a circumstance happening.”

Ted Cruz Blasts GOP Leaders For Funding Planned Parenthood

Sen. Ted Cruz is excoriating the Republican leadership in the House and Senate for failing to “lift a finger to defend life” by eliminating taxpayer funding of Planned Parenthood. Cruz’s speech on the Senate floor comes as the lawmakers voted, 77-19, to advance a bill to authorize government spending that includes funding for Planned Parenthood.

Star-Studded Concert Prior To Pope Francis’ Mass in New York City

A star-studded concert is preceding Pope Francis’ celebration of Mass on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The program, called “A Journey of Faith,” features Gloria Estefan, who will sing “Mas Alla (Beyond),” a Spanish spiritual ballad that she recorded in 1995, and which she also sang for Pope John Paul II.

Jesuit ‘America’ Stresses: Pope Francis Acknowledges Church Teaching Authorizes Criticism of Capitalism

The Jesuit publication America adds that Pope Francis, who is also a Jesuit, “went on to state firmly” that: “My doctrine on all this, on the ‘Laudato Si’ (the encyclical on ‘the common home’), on the economic imperialism, and all that, is the Church’s social doctrine.” When an American journalist reported to the Pope that more than 50 dissidents had been arrested outside the nunciature in Cuba while attempting to meet with the Pope, Francis reportedly responded, “I don’t have any news that that has happened. I don’t have any news…I don’t know directly.”

Senate Democrats Block 20-Week Abortion Pain Bill

The blocked legislation, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act is based on scientific evidence that has shown that unborn babies at least at 20 weeks after fertilization can feel the pain associated with being destroyed during an abortion. The Senate voted 54-42 to advance the legislation, a count that fell short of the 60 votes needed.
