Judge Dismisses Taxi Lawsuit Against Uber

A group of 13 Connecticut taxi and livery companies and the Taxicabs and Livery Council of Connecticut filed a lawsuit in May of last year against Uber and Lyft, claiming that they had created “illegal transportation services that violate federal and state laws and regulations,” and that the companies “deceive customers about the fares they must pay, the safety of the cars and drivers transporting them, the insurance coverage available, and the legality of their offered services.”

More States Move to End Federal Flow of Funds to Planned Parenthood

Despite the Obama administration’s threat against terminating federal funding of Planned Parenthood, more states are cutting Medicaid funds to the nation’s largest abortion provider following videos that have exposed top medical directors of the organization engaged in the harvesting of body parts of aborted babies for potential sale to biomedical companies.

Board: Judges Can’t Use Freedom of Religion to Avoid Performing Same-Sex Marriages

Citing the judicial oath of office to “support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of Ohio,” the opinion states, “A judge who is willing to perform marriages of only opposite-sex couples because of his or her personal, moral, or religious beliefs may be viewed as possessing a bias or prejudice against a specific class or group of people based on sexual orientation.”

House Committee Expands Planned Parenthood Probe

Though the House is officially in recess, committee chairman Rep. Fred Upton (R-MI), Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee chairman Joe Pitts (R-PA), committee vice chairman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), and committee chairman emeritus Joe Barton (R-TX) signed letters to Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards, StemExpress, Advanced Bioscience Resources, Inc. (ABR), and Novogenix Laboratories. A news release posted on the committee’s website states the request for further information “build[s] on the committee’s investigation into the shocking Planned Parenthood videos released in recent weeks.”

Lawmaker: ‘More Work to Do’ to Defund Planned Parenthood in Wisconsin

Though Gov. Scott Walker redirected approximately $1 million of prior Wisconsin funding that went primarily to Planned Parenthood in his state to other public women’s health centers that do not provide abortions, a state lawmaker says there is “more work to do” and is seeking to completely defund the organization in the state.
