The Speaker of the House historically hasn’t been assigned a special government plane. That changed after 9-11, when the government decided that the individual who was third in succession needed secure travel. The Speaker at the time, Dennis Hastert, was assigned a small military jet, although he rarely used it. When Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) became Speaker she…well…upgraded, to a Boeing 757.
