Today, in 1649, British King Charles I was beheaded. On the same day, in 1661, his usurper, Oliver Cromwell, was executed. In 1835, an assassin tried to kill President Andrew Jackson. In 1948, Gandi was assassinated. And, in 1968, today, the Tet Offensive in Vietnam began.
