Today Coca Cola sided with reported 9-11 truther and cop-killer supporter Van Jones and the group he co-founded, Color of Change. CoC cyber-bullied Coca Cola, Walmart, and other companies for supporting voter integrity via their membership with the American Legislative Exchange Council. Via the Washington Examiner:
Officials from another party-backed group, Color of Change, kicked off a boycott of Coke and other financial backers of the American Legislative Exchange Council which supports new voter ID laws. Other supporters include Walmart and Koch Industries. The boycott call started with a tweet (@CocaCola is helping undermine voting rights. Tell them to stop) and a webpage. The group also has tied the Council to the Trayvon Martin shooting case.
Coke was quick to react to the boycott threat, pulling support from the targeted group just five hours after it was called.In caving in to the economic threat by liberals against a pro-voter ID law group, Coke issue this statement Wednesday afternoon: “The Coca-Cola Company has elected to discontinue its membership with the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). Our involvement with ALEC was focused on efforts to oppose discriminatory food and beverage taxes, not on issues that have no direct bearing on our business. We have a long-standing policy of only taking positions on issues that impact our Company and industry.
We contacted Coca-Cola to make sure they understand that through their membership in ALEC, they are supporting racially-discriminatory voter ID laws1,2 that have the potential to disenfranchise over 5 million people in the upcoming elections.3 They told us they “recognize the importance of voting rights” but claimed that they weren’t responsible for ALEC’s voter ID legislation.
If requiring an ID to vote is racist, I would like for Color of Change to explain to me how requiring an ID to cash a check, purchase alcohol or cigaretters, reserve a hotel room, rent a car, enter into the very Department of Justice building, operate a motor vehicle, buy a home, et al. isn’t racist — and if they are consistent and believe that it is, explain why they haven’t protested any of these things.
Color of Change’s co-founder, Van Jones, is no stranger to controvery, having been forced to resign following the news that he reportedly signed a 9-11 truther petition and rallied on behalf of a convicted cop-killer.
Does Coca Cola share these beliefs as well?
