A 25-year-old Detroit mother has been picked up on two counts of felony welfare fraud after she continued to take food stamps after failing to report to the state that she had just won $1 million in a lottery. Attorney General Bill Schuette said she could serve up to four years in prison.
Clayton worked from June 2011 through October 2011 and received food stamps from August 2010 to March 2012, but she won the Michigan Lottery’s “Make Me Rich!” game in September 2011. She didn’t report the winnings as income. Overall, Clayton picked up about $5,475 in welfare cash and medical assistance benefits. Clayton is a mother of two.
