Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, whose Facebook post about “death panels” galvanized conservative opposition to Obamacare before its passing, came out of the gate with another fiery tweet after the Supreme Court, in a 5-4 vote, upheld the individual mandate as a tax.
“Obama lied to the American people. Again.,” Palin tweeted. “He said it wasn’t a tax. Obama lies; freedom dies.”
Palin wrote earlier this week that Congress should repeal Obamacare if the Court upheld the law.
President Barack Obama insisted the mandate in the law was not a tax, and his lawyers did not argue for the mandate as tax, because doing so would have cost Obama dearly with an economically struggling public and made the health care law more unpopular than it already is.
Once again, Palin, in less than 140 characters, crystallized what the next phase of the healthcare debate should be about — Obama’s duplicity and his penchant for curtailing the liberties of Americans through his big government policies. In a new media age in which there is so much clutter, Palin’s tweet again showed her substantive messages can cut through the mainstream media filter like no one else’s.
