After Barack Obama spoke in Sandusky, Ohio on Thursday, a sobbing woman thanked him for passing Obamacare.
According to Politico, the woman told reporters she thanked the President for passing Obamacare, because her sister died of cancer because she could did not have health insurance and made too much to qualify for Medicaid.
Sadly, this woman in her heartfelt thanksgiving is likely unaware of the fact that her situation has not changed for the better. To receive health insurance, she must still enroll in a private plan (whose premiums are increasing due to the recently upheld law), so she’s in the same boat as her sister was–with one horrible caveat.
If she can’t afford to pay for health insurance, she soon will have to pay a considerable tax on her annual income in addition to her other taxes and living expenses. She still has the same access to treatment she did before the Affordable Care Act passed, so even if she racks up medical debt without an insurance plan, she will owe the federal government hundreds if not thousands of dollars every year under the tax used to justify the law’s constitutionality.
Of course, the mainstream media ate up her Obama adulation and reported widely on it. Look for more of such stories to be highlighted during the election to help Obama by making Republicans seem cruel and heartless for opposing the tax increase that is Obamacare.
