More Confusion Surrounds Rep. Jesse Jackson's Medical Leave of Absence

Confusion surrounds the medical leave of absence of Rep. Jesse Jackson (D-IL.)

Jackson, whose office said he was on medical leave for exhaustion before saying he was in an in-patient facility due to medical issues, is now not expected to return to Congress until after Labor Day, according to a Politico report.

In a bizarre twist, Jackson’s father, the Rev. Jesse Jackson, had to dismiss earlier reports, from “two high-ranking people on the Democratic side of the aisle,” that his son had attempted suicide

“No, that’s not true,” Jackson Sr. told Politico. “He’s with his doctor and getting treatment, regaining his strength. That’s all I really want to say at this point.”

Jackson has been under scrutiny for allegedly having lobbied former Illinois Gov. Rob Blagojevich (D) for a Senate appointment in exchange for fundraisers. On June 20, Raghuveer Nayak, a fundraiser with ties to Jackson, was indicted on federal fraud and tax charges, according to Politico, intensifying the scrutiny of Jackson. Hints of extramarital affairs have also swirled around Jackson.
