Obamacare a Boon to Scam Artists

Obamacare a Boon to Scam Artists

On Friday, the Federal Trade Commission issued a warning that fraudsters are now using Obamacare to scam the very citizens who will be forced to pay for Obama’s new healthcare scheme.

The FTC Alert says that scam artists are targeting individuals through the phone:

They say they’re from the government and that, using the Affordable CareAct as a hook, they need to verify some information. They might havethe routing number from your bank, and then use that information to getyou to reveal the entire account number. Or, they’ll ask for yourcredit card or Social Security number, Medicare ID, or other personalinformation.

The FTC, which bills itself as the nation’s consumer protection agency, says that “if someone who claims to be from the government calls and asks for your personal information, hang up. It’s a scam.”
