Obama Admin Announces New Solar Energy Projects

As the list of failed green energy projects continues to get longer, the Obama administration announced on Tuesday that the Interior Department will open more public lands in six Western states for solar energy projects.

According to The Hill, 285,000 acres in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah will be set aside for the projects while firms will be allowed to apply for waivers to develop solar projects on another 19 million acres.

Ken Salazar, Obama’s Secretary of the Interior, called the announcement “a proud moment” for the administration.

Although, Salazar claimed that the new projects would not crowd out exploration for oil, gas and mineral drilling, the failures of recent solar energy projects like Solyndra, which received $535 million in loan guarantees, will make taxpayers rightfully skittish upon hearing news of more government-backed solar energy projects in the pipeline.
