House Will Vote to Criminalize Some Abortions in Washington DC

The House will vote on Tuesday to criminalize some abortions in Washington, D.C.

According to The Hill, the bill “would fine or imprison doctors who perform abortions in D.C. after 20 weeks of pregnancy,” and is supported by groups who believe some limits on D.C.’s liberal abortion policies are “reasonable.”

The bill, authored by Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ), one of the most pro-life Representatives, predictably has drawn outrage from liberal interest groups and the politicians beholden to them. Since the bill will be “scored” by liberal and conservative groups alike, Representatives will likely vote along ideological lines.

The bill will likely not pass because, according to The Hill, “Republican leadership will bring up the bill under suspension of the rules, which sets a higher vote hurdle for passage.”
