Romney to Embark on Swing State Bus Tour–with VP Nominee?–After Olympics

As the Olympics conclude next week, Mitt Romney will embark on a bus tour of the most important swing states on August 10 in what may be the beginning of his campaign’s sprint to the November finish line.

The AP reports that Romney is finalizing a bus tour that is expected to take him to Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida.

CNN’s Peter Hamby first reported the news and noted that the tour had all the signals of a barnstorming trip that Romney would make with his vice presidential candidate.

If that is the case, Romney would have to make his vice presidential announcement, of course, in the same timeframe as the bus tour.

As Hamby noted, there will be a media vacuum between the end of the Olympics and the beginning of the Republican National Convention in Florida, and Romney’s vice presidential announcement would fill that vacuum to ensure the ticket gets the maximum amount of coverage as undecided voters who are not political junkies begin to pay attention to the election.
