Team Obama Coordinates Attacks on Palin to Deflect Biden Criticism

On a day in which the White House had to assure the mainstream media that Obama-Biden is in fact the ticket that will face Romney-Ryan in the fall, top Obama advisers coordinated efforts to mocking former vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin instead of defending Biden’s gaffes.

Biden’s threat that Republicans are “gonna put y’all back in chains” was so egregious that it overshadowed his other significant gaffes, such as forgetting what century he was in and that he was in Virginia and not North Carolina. Biden also mocked a sign language interpreter.

Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) had suggested that Obama replace Biden with Hillary Clinton on Wednesday, and when Obama advisers were asked about this, they responded by jabbing Palin.

Obama’s chief strategist David Axelrod, according to the Weekly Standard, made light of Palin by saying:

‘Far be it from me to denigrate Senator McCain’s advice on vice presidential nominees,’ Axelrod joked, making a reference to McCain picking Sarah Palin for the Republican ticket in 2008.

When asked by FOX News, White House press secretary Jay Carney responded, as the Daily Caller noted:

‘Yes and that was settled a long long time ago … And while I appreciate, I have great admiration for and respect for and a long relationship with John McCain but one place I would not go for advice on vice presidential running mates is to Senator McCain.’

Of course, like she always does, Palin, on FOX News’s “On The Record” on Tuesday, got this narrative started, suggesting Obama replace Biden with Clinton — a day before McCain’s comments.

Palin, though, may have been clever like a fox — again. As “The Hayride” blog suggests, if Obama, who loathes Palin and lets her get under his skin and in his head, was seriously considering dumping Biden for Clinton, he would not be able to now:

So just in case the Democrats might think about making a switch to Hillary, along comes Sarah Palin to suggest it. And now they can’t do it even if they wanted to. Obama can’t be seen as taking advice from Sarah Palin.

If Obama replaced Biden with Clinton, it would be a concession that he took advice from Sarah Palin the dummy, and Obama is too proud to get tagged with that label.

Palin may have preemptively prevented Obama from making the one move that could make Obama more likely to win the White House.

Game on.
