Friday: Michigan Homecoming for Romney, Obama at WH

Friday: Michigan Homecoming for Romney, Obama at WH

It will be a homecoming for Mitt Romney on Friday, as he campaigns with Paul Ryan at a farm in Commerce Township, Michigan. Commerce Township is in Oakland County, which is where Romney, whose father was governor of Michigan, was raised.

President Barack Obama leads by 3.8 points in the RealClearPolitics average of polls in Michigan. Only one poll shows Romney in the lead, with a four points advantage.

Romney needs to win over Reagan Democrats in Michigan (see: Macomb County) and bring the Reagan Democrats who voted for Obama in 2008 back home. On Friday, FOX News’ “Hannity” will preview an important film by Citizens United and Stephen Bannon — “The Hope and the Change” — that features blue collar, Reagan Democrats who voted for Obama in 2008 and who will not be doing so in 2012. The momentum Romney has seen in Michigan in some polls has forced the Obama campaign to send Vice President Joe Biden to Detroit this week to ensure Obama’s base is not apathetic.

Romney — and his wife, Ann —  will also sit down with CBS Evening News’s Scott Pelley for a joint interview. Pelley will broadcast live from Michigan on Friday evening.

Obama has no public events on his schedule, and Vice President Joe Biden will be sent to fundraisers in New York, two days after Obama went to New York to host the “Obama Classic” basketball tournament.
