DNC Platform Lionizes Obama Foreign Policy

Baaghhhh.  If you take time to read the DNC platform and its take on Barack Obama’s record on foreign affairs, you wont need an emetic – you’ll just naturally throw up. The unbelievable brazen gall of the platform’s picture of Obama is so onerous that it’s hard to believe anyone who reads the news wouldn’t want to force the platform’s authors to live in Cairo as Coptic Christians, or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s home as a rabbi. Try some of this drivel:

The cornerstone of our engagement with the world is our alliances, which had been badly damaged under the Bush administration.

Bush damaged our alliances? Try telling Great Britain and Israel that.

The President and the Democratic Party recognize America’s enduring interest in supporting peace and prosperity in Europe, as well as bolstering the strength and vitality of NATO, which is critical to the security of the continent and beyond.

Who was it that scrapped plans for a missile defense system in Poland in order to curry favor with Russia? Bush? Not quite. It was the Anointed One. And the icing on the cake was that Obama terminated the program on the 70th anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Poland.

China can be a partner in reducing tensions on the Korean Peninsula, countering proliferation in Iran, confronting climate change, increasing trade, and resolving other global challenges. President Obama will continue to seek additional opportunities for cooperation with China, including greater communication between our militaries.

Greater communication between China’s military and ours? Good God.

The President’s consistent support for Israel’s right to defend itself and his steadfast opposition to any attempt to delegitimize Israel on the world stage are further evidence of our enduring commitment to Israel’s security. President Obama and the Democratic Party maintain an unshakable commitment to Israel’s security.

The same man who put his feet up on the desk when Prime Minister Netanyahu visited, the same man who said Israel should return to the pre-1967 “Auschwitz” borders, the same man who said of Netanyahu to Nicolas Sarkozy, “You’re fed up with him, but I have to deal with him every day”, the same man who will not lift a finger to help Israel take out Iran’s incipient nuclear threat is a supporter of Israel? He can’t wait until Israel is wiped off the map so his Arab buddies can rule the Middle East completely.

We have strengthened cooperation with Mexico, Colombia, and throughout Central America to combat narco- traffickers and criminal gangs that threaten their citizens and ours. We will also work to disrupt organized crime networks seeking to use the Caribbean to smuggle drugs into our country.

It’s good to know Obama is cooperating with the Mexican government; more than 30,000 Mexicans have already died in the war between the cartels.

We have restored America’s leadership at the UN by cooperating with our partners there when we can and respectfully disagreeing with them when we must, reversing the previous administration’s disdain for the UN. The President’s leadership at the UN has enabled us to make real progress on a number of top national security priorities, including getting Russia and China on board to implement the toughest UN sanctions ever on Iran and North Korea.

Nothing like looking to the UN for world leadership.  It’s been hugely successful; North Korea and Iran are reeling from those sanctions and have eliminated their nuclear programs.

Right.

America’s leadership extends beyond our economic prosperity and military might – it is also rooted in our enduring commitment to advancing a core set of universal values. These include an individual’s freedom to speak their mind, assemble without fear, have access to information, worship as they please, and choose their own leaders. Since the beginning of the protests in Tunisia, the United States has consistently opposed violence against innocent civilians, supported a set of universal rights for the people of the region, and supported processes of political and economic reform. In Iran, President Obama spoke out in support of the pro- democracy protestors and imposed human rights sanctions on the Iranian government.

Tell the Coptic Christians in Egypt that the Arab Spring that Obama supported allows them the freedom to speak their mind. Tell the Iranian protestors, who waited vainly for help from Obama, who only offered support to his Islamist buddies in Egypt and Libya, that they have the freedom to speak.

Barack Obama has done more to endanger the United States by deserting our allies and emboldening our adversaries (want a little more flexibility, Mr. Putin? Hang on while I bend over a little farther) than any president in American history.  The very idea that any platform, anywhere, from now until the end of time would assert that his foreign policy has been a success is at least offensive, and at most, obscene.
