The Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) apologized on Wednesday for displaying images of the Russian warships at the Democratic National Convention on the big screen while a retired Navy four-star Admiral was on stage honoring 50 veterans. They blamed the egregious mishap on a “vendor error.”
“Due to vendor error, incorrect images appeared briefly on screen behind fifty-one veterans during the convention and the DNCC apologizes for this mistake,” The DNCC said in a statement.
A Navy veteran, Rob Barker, spotted the error, informed Navy Times and said he was “kind of in shock” and “an immediate apology [from the committee] would be very nice.”
“Maybe acknowledge the fact that yes, they screwed up,” Baker said.
Four Russian ships appeared on screen, and three of them are believed to be a part of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet. Naval experts said another ship appeared to be a ship from the Soviet era.
And yet, Democrats somehow tried to shamelessly turn their apology into an attack on Mitt Romney.
“We’re proud of the service and sacrifice of our veterans and military families, and while they were an important and active part our of convention, Mitt Romney failed to even mention them in his speech in Tampa,” the DNCC said.
Navy Times readers, though, have commented that this was yet another example of how out of touch Democrats are with veterans. One commenter wrote, “Is the Democratic Party that far removed that they can’t check up on a simple picture?“
