WI Judge Strikes Down Gov. Walker's Collective Bargaining Law

The collective bargaining law passed under Gov. Walker in Wisconsin has been struck down. Dane County Circuit Judge Juan Colas ruled the law was unconstitutional Friday afternoon.

The law in question restricted collective bargaining by public sector employees. At one point, Democratic officials fled the state to avoid having a vote on it, but it was passed after their return. Public sector unions then ran several high profile campaigns against Republicans in the state culminating in the attempt to recall Gov. Walker. The recall attempt failed.

Gov. Walker is planning an immediate appeal. His spokesman expressed confidence that the judge’s decision would ultimately be overturned, though it’s not clear if it will go into effect until a decision on the appeal is reached.
