What else can the University of California-Berkeley (CAL) do that would cement their reputation as the most anti-American, anti-Christian campus in the country? How about acceding to a student government demand that the Salvation Army be banned from campus during Christmas?
CAL’s student government decided last month to endorse a resolution to prohibit the Army’s bell ringers’ presence because the student body feels the Christian organization discriminates against homosexuals:
Salvation Army church services, including charity services, are available only to people “who accept and abide by the Salvation Army’s doctrine and discipline,” which excludes homosexuality … Allowing the Salvation Army to collect donations on campus is a form of financial assistance that empowers the organization to spend the money it raises here in order to discriminate and advocate discrimination against queer people.
The Salvation Army’s Kathy Lovin responded, “The notion that we require those we help to ‘accept and abide by the Salvation Army’s doctrine and discipline which excludes homosexuality’ to receive assistance is totally false… the only requirement for service from The Salvation Army is demonstrated need and our ability to meet it.”
The student government claims its “disapproval of the presence of Salvation Army donation containers on campus” is based on “queer students… may take offense to the presence of collection containers operated by a discriminator religious organization in their places of living.”
CAL hasn’t yet decided whether to uphold the resolution.
The bill’s openly gay author, Matthew Enger, has tweeted that the Boy Scouts “can go f**k themselves” for their refusal to hire gays, and also that he hates the Republican Party and wants conservatives to move out of America.
