Obama to NHL: Remember Who Is Putting All That Money in Your Pockets

On Thursday, President Barack Obama chimed in on the NHL lockout by telling NHL players and owners that they should “remember who it is that’s putting all that money in their pockets.”

In an interview with WCCO-TV, Minnesota’s CBS affiliate, Obama said his message to owners and players was, “you guys make a lot of money and you make a lot of money on the backs of fans, so do right by your fans.”

“You can figure out how to spread out a bunch of revenue that you’re bringing in, but do right by the people who support you,” Obama said. “And remember who it is that’s putting all that money in their pockets.”

Earlier in the interview, Obama’s tone toward the taxpayers who fund the federal government was remarkably different.

Obama criticized Republicans for being concerned about taxpayers and not wanting to raising taxes, saying he thought “the idea of not raising taxes has become sort of a religion for a lot of members of the Republican Party.”
