'Friend Didn't Finish the Job': Church Attended by Sandy Hook Victims Evacuated

A Catholic church attended by at least 10 of the 20 children massacred last Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School was evacuated during its noon Mass on Sunday because “an unidentified male called the rectory, threatening to ‘kill everyone.'”

A St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church official claimed the caller also warned: “My friend didn’t finish the job.”

Authorities believed the threat was credible enough to warrant an evacuation; they sent in the SWAT team shortly after 12:30 PM, when Monsignor Robert Weiss, according to his account, “interrupted a younger priest, ‘calmly told the parishioners there was a threat,’ and led the evacuation of approximately 500 people.”

A Newtown police officer declared the church was “clear” at approximately 1:15 PM, and “by 2:30 PM, the church had closed its doors and cancelled their evening mass.”

According to a church official, this was the second day the church was threatened. On Saturday, a prankster wrote, “This is just round one,” on church posters “displayed for parishioners to express their grief.”

At least eight of the funerals for the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy will be held at the St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church.
