Today in upstate New York, a gunman shot and killed two firefighters who were responding to a fire at a home. Two other firefighters were shot, too. While the shootings were taking place, firefighters had to allow two other homes to burn. According to Webster, New York Police Chief Gerald Pickering, “one or more shooters” fired on the firefighters. The shooter has not been captured.
Fire Marshal Rob Boutillier said residents who were in their homes should stay away from doors and windows. Meanwhile, residents are being evacuated.
New York State has some of the heaviest gun control regulations in the country. According to the pro-gun control Brady Campaign, “New York has strong gun laws that help combat the illegal gun market, prevent the sale of guns without background checks and reduce risks to children.” They are ranked fourth in the nation by Brady in terms of gun control. Nonetheless, Gov. Andrew Cuomo has been talking gun confiscation and forced gun sales to the state by private citizens.
