True the Vote: Colin Powell Either Confused, Disingenuous on Election Turnout

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell continues to promote the Democratic Party. What started with an endorsement of President Barack Obama in the 2008 Presidential elections, has now become a regurgitation of misleading and inaccurate Democratic Party talking points.

Powell told MSNBC’s viewers that Republicans were trying to reduce voters from exercising their right to vote in stating:

Should we really have gone after reducing the turnout of voters in those places where we thought it would make a difference?

He further stated:

The Republican Party should be a party that says, ‘We want everybody to vote,’ and make it easier to vote and give them a reason to vote for the party, not to find ways to keep them from voting at all.

In an exclusive interview, True the Vote’s founder and director, Catherine Engelbrecht, said “The vast majority of voters across the spectrum support the US having voter ID laws, just like each and every other Western Industrialized Democracy.”

In reference to Powell’s assertions of Republican efforts to limit the availability of polling places, Engelbrecht stated:

States coast to coast vote weeks before election day, and some, such as North Carolina, open their polls nearly a month early to ensure voters can exercise their right to participate in choosing leaders. The continued attack on each and every effort to ensure legitimacy and election integrity is concerning and clearly comes from a place of either deep confusion or disingenuous efforts to regurgitate political talking points in a polemic manner.
