Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan to Step Down in February

Reports indicate Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan is stepping down on Feb. 23. Sullivan has run the agency since 2006; he became embroiled in controversy following the Colombian prostitution scandal involving Secret Service agents in April 2012.

His problem’s arose when he testified that the Colombia incident was isolated. Individual agents contradicted Sullivan by admitting to other agency assignments on which they’d availed themselves of prostitutes. 

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano took time out on Friday afternoon to thank Sullivan for his service. In so doing she mentioned his 34 years in law enforcement in general and his “29 years of service to five presidents” in particular.

Sullivan’s successor has yet to be announced.
