Colorado: Lawsuits by People Attacked in 'Gun Free Zones'

As CO Democrats push to allow victims of gun violence to sue gun makers over crime, Republican legislators in the state need to answer in kind and put forth legislation making it easier for those who are attacked, molested, or shot in “gun free zones” to sue for damages as well.

In this way, the cries to hold gun manufacturers liable for the misuse of their products would be drowned out by the reasonable proposition that those who deny us the exercise of our 2nd Amendment rights bear responsibility for our safety while we are on their property or in their businesses.

Movie theater chains that don’t allow concealed carry on their properties come to mind immediately.

But in addition to businesses, it seems to fair to raise the option of suing state-level government officials who create or expand “gun free zones” for primary and secondary schools as well.

Think about it–would anyone be talking about more gun control right now if the officials directly responsible for the “gun free zone” at Sandy Hook Elementary could be sued for damages due to the fact that they forced teachers to remain disarmed then failed to protect those innocent lives?

The opportunities to turn this back on Democrats are nearly limitless. We simply need Republicans who will have the courage to take a stand.
