GOP primary winner Paul McKinley is wasting no time hitting the pavement to spread his message across the Illinois 2nd Congressional District. Thursday night, he announced that he will begin a walking tour through the district to meet voters and continue exposing the Chicago Machine.
The march, which McKinley will continue until he has covered the entire district, is named “The Walking Tour of the Machine Destruction,” and begins in Chicago’s 10th Ward on Monday, March 4 at 9:00 a.m.
McKinley won the primary this past Tuesday, surprising detractors who doubted the residents of the 2nd District could look past his “ex-offender” status. Instead, a story of hope: Chicago’s poorest and most downtrodden communities sought a different route, many voting for a Republican candidate for the first time.
At the same time, the suburban and rural areas of the district related to his story of redemption, as well as his embrace of conservative principles such as small government and Second Amendment rights.
McKinley told Breitbart News:
I am going to walk through all of the neighborhoods. This is a campaign about including everybody that shares our pro-life family values, getting The Machine and the government off our backs, shutting down the assault on our Second Amendment and all of our other constitutional rights, and ending the destruction that The Machine has brought down on our community, from the inner-city to farmland.
I want to give people a chance to get to know me, and I want to get to know them. I want to hear from the voters, what issues concern them the most. Many have already got on board, but we have a long way to go. Everyone in my community and across the district has one thing in common, and that is The Machine is not working for them, and it is time to stop going along and end this corruption.
Although the three counties in the district won’t certify the election results for several days, McKinley is expected to maintain his lead and continue on in his campaign against anti-gun radical Robin Kelly.
McKinley has consistently said throughout the campaign that he is an “ex-offender trying to prevent a next offender.” And because Kelly is backed by “The Machine,” McKinley believes “she will become a next offender,” like Illinois residents have gotten so used to when it comes to their elected officials.
Kelly has already found herself amid scandal; the Chicago Tribune reported on an ethics investigation of Kelly during her time as Chief of Staff for then-State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias. She was disciplined over time she took off on the taxpayers’ dime to campaign to replace her boss as Treasurer.
In the meantime, McKinley is keeping the focus squarely on the broken promises of Democrats in the 2nd District, who have been in control for decades.
