Wayne LaPierre came out on fire at CPAC to defend our 2nd amendment rights and the importance of self-protection.
“The 2nd Amendment is not just words on parchment,” said LaPierre. “It’s not some suggestion from our Founding Fathers to be interpreted by whim. Our Founding fathers knew that without the 2nd Amendment freedom, all of our freedoms could be in jeopardy.”
The media and the left try to demonize the NRA, claiming they are somehow responsible for gun violence, but the organization has the top gun safety programs in the country. The NRA has been trusted to train military and law enforcement since their founding in 1871.
After the Sandy Hook massacre, many people on both sides of the aisle agreed that something had to be done to better secure our schools. Despite the rhetoric thrown their way, the NRA got to work and started the NRA School Shield Program, which would help train people and fund schools to provide armed security. LaPierre said our children deserve the same protection given to jewelry stores and sports stadiums.
He also reminded the audience that while many, including Vice President Joe Biden, claim to want to end gun violence, they make excuses when confronted about the few gun prosecutions. Biden once said there is not enough time to prosecute gun crimes.
“Out of 76,000 prohibited persons flagged by the instant check system, only 13 were successfully prosecuted nationwide,” said LaPierre.
Yesterday the Senate Judiciary Committee passed California Senator Feinstein’s new assault-weapons ban. It will head to the Senate floor in April.
“This is your time to stand and fight,” concluded LaPierre. “Now and in the next election and the one after that now and the rest of your life, always stand and always fight for freedom.”
