Rush: Amnesty a 'Death Sentence' for GOP

On his radio show last week, Rush Limbaugh said amnesty would be a “death sentence” for Republicans and ensure the United States becomes like California politically where Republicans will not have “a prayer” in winning elections.

Limbaugh told a caller if 10-20 million illegal immigrants were allowed a path to become citizens–and eventually vote, the Republican Party would be destroyed because “Democrats already get 70% of the Hispanic vote.” He said  polling suggests many Hispanics vote for Democrats because they believe that “government should be the primary source of prosperity.”

“They believe in big, activist government involved in everybody’s life, 70% of the Hispanic vote,” Limbaugh said.

Limbaugh said if there were, hypothetically, ten million illegal immigrants and seven million “automatically” vote Democrat, then the “Republican Party’s finished.”

“I think this is a disaster here for the Republicans to support amnesty,” Limbaugh said. “They are signing their own death sentence  If amnesty ever does happen with full citizenship and the right to vote, then the country becomes California politically, where the Republicans don’t ever have a prayer.”

Limbaugh said Republican proponents of immigration reform were foolish and naive to think that illegal immigrants and Hispanics are “Republicans-in-waiting.”

Rosemary Jenks, the director of government relations for Numbers USA, said the same thing at Breitbart News’ “The Uninvited” panel at CPAC.

“Passing amnesty is not going to get Hispanics to vote Republican,” Jenks said, noting, as Limbaugh did, it would create more Democrats because her group’s polling suggests illegal immigrants want more government services.

Limbaugh challenged Republicans to call Democrats out by saying they would support amnesty only if illegal immigrants would not be able to vote for 25 years.

He said there’s “not one Democrat” that would support that.

“Nobody will,” Limbaugh said. “It’s simply a way to call ’em out.”
