WH Warns GOP, Says Filibuster of Gun Control Efforts Would Be 'Unfortunate'

In a press conference on March 26th, White House spokesman Jay Carney warned that “filibusters of efforts to move forward with common-sense measures to reduce gun violence would be unfortunate.”

Carney’s words came the very day a letter from Senators Rand Paul (R-KY), Ted Cruz (R-TX), and Mike Lee (R-UT) intimating the possible filibuster of any new gun control legislation was to be delivered to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV).

Paul, Cruz, and Lee are concerned that anti-gun amendments will be added to legislation so Senators who are weak on guns can vote against the measures and claim to be pro-gun in 2014.

Carney did not address this aspect of the argument when he warned against filibuster. Rather, he said, “We have worked with Congress, with the Senate, to try to advance the elements of the president’s plan that require legislative action and these again are common-sense measures.”

On March 26th, Breitbart News reported that support for more gun control is plummeting among Americans.
