Exclusive: Cruz: Obama's 'Ongoing Politicization' of Newtown 'Shameful'

On Wednesday, White House press secretary Jay Carney said it was “shameful” for Republican legislators to filibuster gun control in the Senate. “It would be shameful to not allow any one of these measures to come up to a vote,” Carney told the press. “The victims of Newtown – the 20 kids and the 6 educators who lost their lives – deserve a vote.” One of the legislators who has been considering a filibuster, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), fired back via spokeswoman exclusively to Breitbart News on Thursday morning.

“What’s shameful is the administration’s ongoing politicization of the Newtown tragedy as a reason to ram through an agenda that will do nothing to stop violent crime,” said Cruz’s press secretary, Catherine Frazier. “Our focus should be on stopping criminals from obtaining guns, which the Obama Administration has failed to make a priority. Sen. Cruz remains committed to the fight to protect and uphold Americans’ fundamental 2nd Amendment rights, and will use any procedural means necessary to that end as guns legislation is considered in the Senate.”

President Obama’s proposed gun measures would not have done anything to stop what occurred in Newtown. Nonetheless, he has made an effort to tie all of his efforts on gun control to the tragedy at Sandy Hook in order to effectuate his policy proposals.
