New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns has launched a new ad campaign praising Sens. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA) while targeting Republicans in states like Georgia, Tennessee, and Indiana.
The new ads draw attention to the heinous crime at Sandy Hook Elementary, then point out that Manchin and Toomey abandoned their earlier positions on guns and embraced expanded background checks.
A narrator’s voice says:
Some Democrats and Republicans are coming together to support comprehensive background checks on gun sales… Ninety percent of America supports comprehensive background checks. Call your senators and urge them to join the bipartisan efforts for comprehensive background checks.
The ads target Sens. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), John Isakson (R-GA), Dan Coats (R-IN), Sen. Dean Heller (R-NV), Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), Lemar Alexander (R-TN), and Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN). It also targets two red state democrats: Sens. Mary Landrieu (R-LA) and Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND).
