Amid the flurry of anti-gun amendments offered to the Senate gun bill by Democrats, Republican Senators have found an amendment to rally behind: Sen. John Cornyn’s (R-TX) “National Reciprocity” push.

Under the language of Cornyn’s amendment, any state that has a law allowing concealed carry within its borders would have to recognize the licences/permits of citizens from other states who carry concealed.

The amendment argues that concealed carry permit holders from every state already go through a federal background check for their permit. Therefore, regardless of minor variations in concealed carry laws from state to state, license/permit holders from every state ultimately all go through the exact same background check in order to get or renew their licenses/permits.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) sees Cornyn’s amendment as way “to actually expand the 2nd Amendment.”

This would be huge feat amid what has, up until now, been a relentless political and mainstream media assault on the 2nd Amendment.
