On Wednesday, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin said President Barack Obama needed to clear up and “renounce” the “un-American” and “amoral” reports from the Pentagon that U.S. soldiers could be prosecuted for promoting their Christian faith. She called on Obama to do so “today, right now.”
Breitbart News reported the Pentagon had met with an “anti-Christian extremist” in order to “develop court-martial procedures to punish Christians in the military who express or share their faith.” In response, the Pengaton released a statement on Wednesday confirming the report: “Religious proselytization is not permitted within the Department of Defense… Court martials and non-judicial punishments are decided on a case-by-case basis…”
Barack Obama had better clear this up today, right now. Surely he is just allowing his handlers to throw up this kind of ridiculous, amoral, un-American trial balloon. I call on Obama to address this immediately with the American public, clear it up, and renounce these reports as the nonsense they surely in God’s name must be.
As Breitbart News legal columnist Ken Klukowski reported, those in uniform who share their faith may be prosecuted. This would also, as Klukowski wrote, apply to “chaplains–military officers who are ordained clergymen of their faith (mostly Christian pastors or priests, or Jewish rabbis)–whose duty since the founding of the U.S. military under George Washington is to teach their faith and minister to the spiritual needs of troops who come to them for counsel, instruction, or comfort.”
