Staffer: Immigration Bill 90% Done

Emily Bennion, the press secretary for Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), tweeted on Tuesday that the Senate Judiciary Committee is wrapping up the last ten percent of its markup of the “Gang of Eight” immigration legislation.

“Judiciary Committee has made it through 90% of the Gang of 8 bill amendments,” Bennion Tweeted on Tuesday afternoon. “Will regroup at 2:30 to finish of the last 10%.”

Earlier in the day, Bennion noted that Tuesday “will (likely) be the final day of markup” on the bill.

It still remains unclear if committee chairman Sen. Pat Leahy (D-VT) will hold a vote to try to pass the bill out of the Senate Judiciary Committee onto the Senate floor on Tuesday, Wednesday or at another point this week.

Senate staffers told Breitbart News on Monday evening that Senate Democrats are trying to rush the bill to the Senate floor now, as the majority of the American people are distracted following all the scandals hitting President Barack Obama’s administration so they cannot follow all the details of what is happening in this process.

“There is a relentless drive to push this bill through at any cost because it’s backers know that once the American people find out what’s in it they will rise up against it,” a Republican Senate aide said, for instance.
