Investigation Called to Search Landfill for Bodies of Gosnell Victims

A group of pro-life advocates has called for a government investigation into the disposal of babies who were killed by convicted abortionist Kermit Gosnell. The Campaign to Stop Stericycle (CSS), which has exposed the medical waste giant’s relationship with abortion clinics, claims it has new evidence indicating that Stericycle unlawfully dumped the bodies of babies from Gosnell’s clinic into a municipal landfill.

According to LifeSiteNews, grand jury documents point to Stericycle having assisted Gosnell with the disposal of the aborted babies. The Presentment describes that clinic staff were assigned to prepare the boxes of dead babies for Stericycle’s arrival.

According to the document:

James Johnson, who worked for Gosnell since 2001, testified that his duties included collecting the red biohazard bags of fetal remains and putting them in boxes for pick-up by an outside firm, Stericycle. Johnson told us that in the last two years, Gosnell did not always pay his Stericycle bills; as a result, in 2009 and 2010, fetal remains were not regularly collected. These remains, including Baby Boy B and Baby Girl A, were left in freezers, where investigators found them.

CSS states that, during an undercover investigation in 2010, it discovered that human body parts collected by Stericycle in Pennsylvania are transferred to the company’s plant in North Carolina and burned with medical trash.

During the investigation, CSS obtained a contract for a hypothetical abortion facility, which included pick-up of fetal remains, and found that Stericycle had been skirting their Waste Acceptance Policy via state laws that consider aborted babies as being unhuman and “unrecognizable.”

Villalobos, who formerly managed Stericycle’s contracts with “multiple regions of Planned Parenthood,” confirmed that Stericycle does accept fetal remains.

“You’ll get stickers marked for incinerate only. The waste will be incinerated,” said Stericycle sales representative Mara Villalobos. “It will be incinerated, so it will be hauled over to Haw River, [North Carolina].”

CSS discovered, however, that after requesting that the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources (NCDENR) investigate whether the babies killed in Gosnell’s clinic were “lawfully incinerated” by Stericycle, the bodies never actually made it to the incineration plant. Instead, according to documentation, the boxes were mislabeled and sent to Stericycle’s chemclave plant in Morgantown, Pennsylvania, where they were sterilized, and then hauled to a landfill and buried with trash.

In 2011, Stericycle was fined over $42,000 for illegally dumping aborted babies into a municipal landfill in Austin with household and commercial garbage.

CSS has sent a letter to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to request a formal investigation into Stericycle’s role in the disposal of Gosnell’s victims. The letter was also sent to Gov. Tom Corbett (R), Rep. Matthew Baker, Chair of the House Health Committee, and the Pennsylvania State Police.
