Chicago Airport Traffic Drives People to Abandon Cars, Walk

If traffic has ever gotten you down, just be grateful you weren’t at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport on Monday morning between 6 and 7 a.m. The traffic was so heavy that pedestrians actually exited their vehicles from the I-190 and walked to the airport. Approximately 70 people reportedly left their cars to make the trek. Police officers began giving pedestrians rides to the airport terminals.

According to Illinois State Police Master Sergeant S. Nowak, “We’re sending troopers from the Kennedy Expressway as well as the Edens Expressway to check on the pedestrians walking because obviously that is unsafe. And we would advise the people not to get out of their vehicles on an interstate and to stay in their vehicle because it is not safe and we don’t want to put anyone in jeopardy.”

The traffic situation has lightened over the past several hours.
