On Monday, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) accused the Justice Department (DOJ) of targeting reporters because they were critical of the Obama administration.
According to The Hill, Cruz’s assertion is “the first time a lawmaker has suggested publicly that the White House is cracking down on reporters over critical media coverage.”
The Justice Department is under fire for subpoenaing phone records of AP reporters and obtaining the private email and phone records of Fox News reporter James Rosen to pursue leaks.
Cruz said the Justice Department’s actions were yet another example of how Obama has used big government for partisan ends.
As a result, Cruz said “the people’s trust in the integrity of government has been undermined, and it hadn’t been helped by the fact that the administration has been willing to mislead the American people.”
