Neighbor: Zimmerman's Nose Disfigured After Fight with Martin

On Tuesday, Eloise Dilligard, a neighbor of accused shooter George Zimmerman, testified that after his encounter with teen Trayvon Martin, Zimmerman’s “nose was very disfigured” and his face was covered in blood immediately after the incident.

The neighbor’s testimony supported Zimmerman’s claim that he was assaulted by Martin before the teen was shot.

The woman said she had arrived at the scene of the incident only moments after it was over and was asked by a police officer to identify those involved. She also noted that she thought the voice heard yelling on a 911 recording made during the fight was that of the accused.

A firearms and a forensics expert both testified that the gun was fired only inches from Martin’s skin, a fact that also could corroborate Zimmerman’s claim that Martin was on top of him when he pulled his gun and fired.

“The wound itself, by the gap and the powder tattooing, in the face of contact with the clothing indicates that this is consistent with Mr. Zimmerman’s account that Mr. Martin was over him, leaning forward at the time he was shot,” forensic pathologist Dr. Vincent DiMaio said.

The defense rested its case on Wednesday.
